Microcredentialing Badge
Writing Professional Emails:
Understanding Expectations

        This site presents a microcredentialing badge that uses assessments, videos, and other resources to help you understand the expectations on you when writing professional emails as an engineer or scientist. The badge uses authentic examples from emails and cover letters written by students and professionals. After completing this material, Penn State students and learners at our partner institutions can earn a digital badge. A digital badge is a shareable credential that can help you demonstrate your achievements and competencies on your LinkedIn profile, résumé, or e-portfolio.

        The badge, which is formally titled “Writing Professional Emails: Understanding Expectations,” will be awarded if you meet the following criteria:
  1. you have a PSU email address or you are a learner with an email address at one of our partner institutions;
  2. you take the initial Kahoot quiz on the email tutorial (be sure to write in your full name and institution at the end of the quiz);
  3. you view the twelve tutorial films (total viewing time: 40 minutes); and
  4. you score at least 18000 (18 out of 20) on the final comprehension quiz of the email tutorial--note that you may retake this assessment to reach the needed score.
        Badges, which are delivered to the email address you provide on the comprehension quiz, will be awarded at the end of each calendar month. For instance, if you complete your badge on August 27, you will receive it the first week of September.
